Abstract: A two dimensional model is applied to investigate flow through and around real groins and groin fields. For hydrodynamic investigations on a simplified model a 2D depth averaged, as well as a 3D model is used. In addition to the mentioned hydrodynamic calculations, morphodynamic computations were carried out with TIMOR3, developed by Zanke. The aim of these calculations is to show typical effects like development of scour at the tip of the groin and erosion or deposition of sediment inside the groinfield as well as the transport in the river. All models were previously applied to a synthetic generated groinfield to study their characteristic behaviour (simplified model). In this paper the preliminary steps in modeling are presented.
