Abstract: A new shipyard is to be constructed on the southern coast of Culu Island in Min Estuary in Fujian Province, China. As the intersection of run-off and tidal current at Min River Estuary, the motion of tidal current and sediment is complicated. Based on the measured data of hydrology and sediment, the transport characteristic of sediment in Min River Estuary is studied. The results indicate that bed load mainly causes to the river bed process of Min Estuary. In the meantime, the optimal layout of Shipyard and dock is studied by physical model. The process of sediment feed rate and model sand is provided for the moveable bed model. In the end, the optimal zone and the direction for the arrangement of wharfs and docks are confirmed, and the optimal project scheme is recommended.
