Abstract: Take a tailing pond of Hebei province as example, this paper determined the position of slip surface of the tailing pond by two dimensional limit equilibrium method, got the distribution of plastic zone (sliding failure) by strength reduction fem. Combined the two computation results of above, the paper also determined the total quantity of the dam break. Set up the three dimensional numerical simulation of dam break, assume that the landslide break all at once, computed evolution of debris flow from dam break of tailing pond. Computations showed the coverage area, velocity distribution et al at typical time 22s, 70s, 100s, 150s, 200s and 300s. Results of this article could provide basis for management and location decision of tailing pond.
