Abstract: In coastal areas, the evolution of geomorphology and its dynamic processes are very important for the security of coastal structures. The long-term variation trend of geomorphology of muddy coast is only the net effect of some interactions among physical, biological and chemical processes. According to the water depth comparison between 1976 and 1999, the subtidal flat occur erosion. Based on the short term in situ observation at subtidal flat, the bottom shear stress is more than critical shear stress for erosion, which induces the surface sediment eroded. However, the seabed elevation varies in different time scale, such as single tidal cycle and spring-neap tidal cycle. In the single tidal cycle, the erosion occurs at the stage with high flow speed; during the spring-neap tidal cycle, the seabed elevation displays the erosion trend on the whole, while the seabed occur deposition slightly from neap tide to intermediate tide and then occur erosion obviously from intermediate tide to spring tide. Combined the hydrodynamic data and chart comparison, the long term evolution of geomorphology of the Luoyuan Bay is controlled by the hydrodynamic processes.
