Abstract: In the past two decades, Bouregreg and Chaouia river basin was disrupted with severe floods. Therefore, the Hydraulic Basin Agency of the Bouregreg and Chaouia (HBABC) has undertaken many actions for flood protection and prevention at regional scale, consistently with the National Plan for Flood Protection Framework directives. This paper describes the HBABC’s approach to implement flood management plan and evaluate flood risk assessment operational strategy at the river basin. Current adaptation measures are largely built upon many years of practical experience and supported by quantitative data. The appraisal of the plan shows that one of the most urgent actions to be carried out is to refine the flood risk assessment approach and evaluate the adaptations measures efficiency. The paper describes methodologies for fulfilling these tasks through extensive literature review and government and experts reports on the BCB flood related issues. Finally, the paper gives recommendations for appraising the different plan layers in order to assess the best way to manage floods and optimise real options.
