Abstract: A series of regular wave experiments were carried out to study the interaction of lee side vortex and wave pressure exerted on submerged dikes. First, the methodology of model experiment is introduced in brief. Three models, including vertical, quarter-circular and semi-circular dikes were adopted in tests. The hydraulic condition was composed of one high water level representing the submerged case, several wave heights and wave periods. The Particle Image Velocimetry technique (PIV) was used to measure the velocity field behind three models. Second, the turbulent structure in lee side flow field during the interaction of waves with submerged dikes was discussed based on the streamline analysis. And the process of the lee side vortex evolution was illustrated in detail as waves passing over the submerged dykes. After completing the analysis of vortex structure, the pressure distribution on the rear face of the submerged dykes was discussed based on a series of wave load experiments under the identical conditions with PIV tests. The relationship between near-wall vortex motion and pressure distribution was explored carefully. The results indicate that the negative pressure loss and the fluid transportation energy consumption caused by the lee side near-wall vortex diffusion should be taken into consider in wave load calculation of the submerged structures.
