Abstract: In this article we define the Mean Center (MC) as the midterm lifespan coherent wave of the meanders centerline. The MC is obtained using a methodology that combines the capabilities of the principal component analysis and the discrete wavelet transforms. Based on the data form 16 rivers representing 52 realizations we conclude that MC is a robust frame to study the meanders morphodynamics for a midterm horizon and it complements the information retrieved from the meanders centerline and the valley center. Likewise, meanders local curvature and migration patterns show to be strongly related with the local curvature of the MC (e. g. cutoff events related to peaks in the MC local curvature).
