Abstract: The water supply target of middle section of South-to-North Water Diversion Project is to provide potable water, so it puts forward a very high requirement of water quality of the Danjiangkou Reservoir. Furthermore the water quality of tributaries directly affects the water quality level, especially the upstream tributaries that are nearby the headwater of diversion main cannal. Laoguanhe River as the nearest upstream tributary of Danjiangkou Reservoir to the Taocha diversion main cannal, it is necessary to research the water quality changes of the Laoguanhe River and analyze these impacts on the reservoir. In this article, the spatial distribution of water quality of Laoguanhe river basin were analyzed, including the year, interannual and spatial variation, using the multivariate statistical techniques. Hierarchical CA grouped 11months into two periods and 2006-2012 into two periods, and classified seven monitoring sites into three groups, the tributary, polluted site and medium polluted site.
