Abstract: Based on RNG κ-ε model, VOF model and dynamic mesh model, the hydraulic characteristics of the Ogee curve section of spillway tunnel are simulated successfully in upstream radial gate closing process with sudden lateral enlargement and vertical drop aerator at middle chamber outlet. It is concluded that the aerator could form steady and through cavity to guarantee adequately entrainment to prevent cavitation erosion damage. With the decreasing of gate opening and increasing of Froude number, the variation law of bottom cavity length and lateral cavity length are accordance with liner increase rule in general. In addition, there is greater pressure peak at the range of lashing area of bottom floor and side-wall, where also has larger pressure gradient.
