Abstract: In order to calculate the water environmental carrying capacity (WECC) of Wu-yi canal, the investigation of the distribution and sewage amount of the industry pollution source, agriculture pollution source and the urban sewage source along the Wuyi Canal have been conducted; Meanwhile, we calculated the total amount of pollutant drainage into the river, carried out the appraisal to the polluted sources, and pointed out the main contaminant sources, major pollutants and the primary pollution enterprises and urban areas. According to the monitoring results of water quality, we evaluated the water quality by using the single factor index method. In addition, according to the certain water quality target, this paper put forward the water environment bearing capacity calculation formula of WuYi canal, computed the water environment carrying capacity, the sewage discharging amount and the cutting down amount. We found out the places where its pollutant exceeded, the WECC and the main contaminate factor. Based on the results, this paper put forward the corresponding suggestions to keep the water environment sustainable development. These suggestions and measures comprise adjusting the industrial structure and industrial distribution, strengthening the construction of wastewater treatment plants and pipe network, taking measures to control and reduce agriculture non-point source pollution and implementing regional coordination and ecological compensation mechanism.
