Abstract: Wave overtopping and impact of coastal defense structures is of a major concern in coastal engineering and of the important issues that require better understanding. This paper will present an attempt to study such behaviors by using newly developed method called Improved Meshless Local Petrov Galerkin method with Rankine source solution (IMLPG_R) [1], which solves the Navier-stokes equations for water waves. The IMLPG_R method has been applied successfully to modeling various violent water waves and their interaction with rigid structures in our previous publications. The effects of the low crested vertical wall, steep slopes and berm in front of the vertical wall on overtopping due to solitary waves are investigated in this paper. The results are compared with experimental data. Acceptable agreement has been achieved.
