Abstract: The commonly used methods for determination of the ecological water demand are hydrological method, hydraulic method, habitat method, synthetic method, and so on. In this paper, a new method for determination of the ecological water demand was proposed based o n the biological and river information, especially for the rivers which are deficiency of the hydrological station information. The parameters for the biological and river information including ecological water depth for the fish, the coefficient of roughness, the hydraulic radius, mean flow velocity, and so on, were introduced in detail in this paper, and then the method was used for ecological water demand calculation for Chengdu City. In the end, the Tennant method was used to compare with the results us ing the new method, which proved that the new method is suitable for the determination of the ecological water demand.
