Abstract: The present paper presents a numerical model based on the Lagrangian approach of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) that is used to solve the Nonlinear Shallow Water Equations (NSWE). The model has been developed within the framework of a research project aimed at studying tsunamis generated by landslides (www. tsunamis. it). The mathematics of the numerical model along with the numerical algorithms are here presented. Then, applications of the model to a dam break wave hitting a tall structure and to a standard benchmark case of tsunamis generated by landslides are shown. For both cases experimental results are available for comparison with the computations. The model seems to be able to reproduce with good accuracy and at the cost of very low computational time the flow in the investigated conditions.
