Abstract: Scour around piers and an abutment is the major cause of bridge failures allover the World. In order to reduce the tremendous amount of expenses, large amounts of flow research have been done so far. The flow around a circular pier was investigated experimentally. The experiments were conducted in a re-circulating 180° curved channel With an erodible bed. Pier Was located at different locations in the channel i. e. at straight section and curved sections ofthe channel and 2D flow measurements were done. Some of the results of the experiments are presented in this paper.
