Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of hydrodynamic pressure data obtained in the hydraulic jump energy dissipator of the Porto Colombia Hydroelectric Power Plant, which belongs to the Brazilian energy company Furnas Centrais Eletricas S. A. Measurements were conducted for five discharge conditions (500 m3/s, 1000 m3/s, 2000m3/s, 3000 m3/s and 4000 m3/s), corresponding to Froude numbers ranging between 5. 2 and 12. 3. The prototype data were obtained at the bottom of the stilling basin by means of seven pressure transducers. They show that both the dimensionless longitudinal distribution of both the mean pressure and the pressure fluctuation in the flat reach of the basin are similar to those obtained in the free jump of reduced scale model tests. Furthermore the mean values of the normalized coefficient of the extreme pressure data are of the same order of magnitude of those obtained previously from model testing.
