Abstract: The use of baffles in sewer channels enables the capture of floatables, which are responsible for the aesthetic pollution of water bodies due to combined sewer overflow discharges. Experimental investigations and analytical procedures concerning the evaluation of the capturing performances of baffles have been carried out in the last decades providing indications on the hydraulic processes which determine the capture of floatables and on the design of baffles. This paper reports the results of a laboratory investigation aimed at comparing the capturing performances of underflow baffles with different geometry. In particular the behaviour of two baffles with vertical and inclined cross profiles was investigated.
