Model Experimentals of Fast-Closing-Gate for the Laxiwa Hydropower Station

Abstract: Fast-closing-gate is a kind of structure which is placed in the inlet of the tube for water turbine generator unit and closes fast in emergency. Its use refers to many hydraulic problems, such as holding forces, hydrodynamics, the speed of ventilation for the vents, and so on. In this paper the special researches were conducted of hydraulics of the fast-closing gate for the Laxiwa Hydropower Station and the major areas include the design of the models, the method of measurement, the reliability of closing the gate to use water-spout, critical opening and the corresponding effective action head, relationships of holding force and opening and size and position for the vent, and so on. By the model experiment research of the hydropower station, we have got the relationships of holding force and opening, of hydrodynamic pressure and opening, of wind velocity of vent and opening, and several suggestions were presented for the design and safety operation for the engineering project.
