Abstract: In this experimental research the main characteristics of the hydraulic jump which is created at a sluice gate in straight inclined non prismatic rectangular open channel are examined. Two cases are investigated, the abruptly expanding channel and the ubruptly converging channel. In the first case the jump is affected by the flow separation, while in the second case no effect is observed. A number of equations are given for the conjugate depths’ ratio of expanding channels -which tend to be identified with corresponding equations of prismatic channels when the non prismatic channels become progressively prismatic channels.
