Abstract: Settling and sedimentation behavior of kaolin was studied in this research. The settling behavior was analyzed with small and large settling columns. The large settling column is equipped with twenty eight measuring points, which are connected to pressure transducers for measuring pore pressure changes during settling. Throughout the study, elevations of interface change were observed for different material, initial concentration, and salinity levels. The excess pore pressure changes were measured during the large column tests. In addition, channel formation was also observed. Channels occurred under flocculation in zone settling and consolidation zones. Pressure drop was observed near channels in some cases.
