Abstract: Based on the energy consumption theory, a formula for bed load discharge is developed, which is suitable for calculating low and high intensity of bed load transport on the river bed composed of fine sand and large gravel. The comparison and verification of the formula are carried out with the measured data and several representing formulas. It is indicated that the formula proposed in this paper is more adaptable to the practical use and its calculated results are also more accurate.
