Abstract: This paper presents results of a physical model study on the impact of a large scale river-crossing structure on the fluvial processes and flow patterns. For the design condition of a 1,000 year flood, through experimental runs of various scenarios and flow pattern variations both up-and downstream of the structure, the maximum water level at the peak flood period and the maximum variation of flow velocity were estimated and the fluvial processes of the main channel was simulated. Based on the experiment optimal axial line of the river-crossing structure and layout of the appurtenant works were recommended.
