Abstract: Setting up an inlet sluice in the middle of a headwork on the sediment-laden Qiakemake River is bound to cause problem that sediment entering canals. Creating boundary conditions of bend circulation in the model test forms herringbone symmetric bend circulation which leads the sediment in front of the inlet sluice to both sides far away from the middle inlet sluice, and the sediment is delivered downstream by flood-relief sluices on the left and right sides of inlet sluice, which avoid or reduce the amount of bed load into the middle inlet sluice and solve the problem of sediment entering the canals efficiently.
