Abstract: With the data surveyed in the field, a physical scale movable-bed model for the Xiaolangdi Reservoir and a flume for the purpose of studying density current, a comprehensive analysis and study are performed of the density current that occurred in the Xiaolangdi reservoir with special reference to its immersing conditions, compound resistance, sediment carrying capacity and sediment discharging from the reservoir. Besides, the present authors established formulas for the sediment carrying capacity of density current and an empirical formula for sediment discharging.
