Abstract: The Stornorrfors dry reach is located just downstream of the largest hydro power plant in Sweden. During the period of May to September the spill in the dry reach is used together with a fish ladder for fish migration purposes. A HEC-RAS model has been constructed of the dry reach (8 km in the stream wise direction) based on topography measurements generated by means of stereo photogrammetry. The photos were taken using a drone equipped with a camera. The HEC-RAS model was calibrated and validated against new time resolved water level measurements along the dry reach for the different flow rates during the summer spill. For steady states the water levels agree with the measurements within 20 cm for the majority of the dry reach. It is shown that the dynamics can also be fairly well captured with the model. The model can be used as a tool for evaluation of the ecological potential in the context of fish migration.
