Complete Genome Sequence of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa L10: An Endophytic Bacterium That Degrades Hydrocarbons, Produces Surfactants, and Promotes Plant Growth

Abstract: Bacterial endophytes that degrade petroleum hydrocarbons and promote plant growth are critically important to phytoremediation. Here, we find that endophytic Pseudomonas aeruginosa L10 degrades hydrocarbons, produces biosurfactants, and promotes plant growth. We present the complete, novel genome sequence of P. aeruginosa L10, predicted to have 6,244 genes (GC content, 66.13%). We identified genes related to petroleum hydrocarbon degradation, including genes putatively encoding alcohol dehydrogenase, aldehyde dehydrogenase, monooxygenase, and dioxygenase. Genome annotation indicated the presence of a gene cluster involved in the synthesis of the biosurfactant rhamnolipid (rhlABRI). We also identified genes related to plant growth promotion, such as production of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase, indole-3-acetic acid, and siderophore. This novel genome will inform further study of the genetic bases for hydrocarbon degradation, biosurfactant synthesis, and plant-growth promotion in P. aeruginosa L10.
