Abstract: The application of light trap and drive technology is very species to help the target fish to find fishway entrances and keep away from the entrances which is help generate electricity. To date, the color illumination preference of Schizothorax davidi (Sauvage, 1880) is unclear. In the present study, the set of experiment were carried out in laboratory conditions: under four light color illuminations (white, green, red, and blue), we used Schizothorax davidi in the Daduhe River to test the percentage of occurrence frequency in the four color areas by three population size. The results showed that population size had no significant effects on the color preferences among the three groups. The fish in single group (first group, one fish individual) positively preferred white light, whereas negatively preferred red light, as well as in the other two groups (second group, 6 fish ind. & third group, 12 fish ind. ). In addition, single fish much more liked green light than did the non-single fish (blue light). The fish were much more active with higher staying time, higher movement frequency and distance under white light among the four color illuminations, whereas inactive under the red light. Our study suggested that white and red light were much more effective for trapping and driving the Schizothorax davidi into the fishway entrances at Daduhe River in southwest China, whatever how large the population size was.
