Abstract: The influences of dams and reservoirs on river ecology have been paid more attention in China. This study takes Coreius Guichenoti, an important economic and endemic fish in Jinsha River as an example. The water velocity and water depth were simulated by a coupled one and two dimensional hydraulic model. Considering the preference of water velocity, water depth and substrate, the habitat model was established to calculate the habitat suitability of spawning ground of the fish in a river reach downstream Guanyinyan power station. The model was then used to predict habitat suitability and weighted usable area affected by impoundment of Wudongde, a power station under construction downstream of the study area. The effect of power station on fish habitat was evaluated and the fish habitat protection solutions were finally proposed.
