Abstract: Based on previous experience, a new way of engineering contract was invented for river restoration works in Taiwan, in which the design was not completed and the contractor needs to fulfill the engineering drawings by going through a series of bottom-up meetings with local communities and NGO groups. This is a first try in Taiwan and applied it to a riverine restoration including vegetation removal/planting and wetland creation for a floodplain of Fazih river in Taichung city with 300m in width and a reach of 7-km in length. The whole process was briefly reported here and all stakeholders were positively involved and learned a lot from each other.
