Abstract: To improve riverfront utilization by people, we conducted surveys on how to measure the utilization potential of well-developed areas. We collected the results of case studies on running water areas and riverbanks. Then, we created a draft availability evaluation flowchart. We selected improvement locations that were being actively used, and carried out field surveys and data acquisitions to understand the physical conditions and usages of these sites. The river channel characteristics obtained from the surveys were inserted into the draft flowchart and compared with the actual usages. Using this case study’s results, we reviewed the flowchart and found that it evaluated the availability quite well.
