Abstract: In order to study the effect of prometryn and fish food on Microcystis aeruginosa growth based on Monod function and Logistic function, we add different concentrations of prometryn (0,50,100 and 200 μg·L -1) and different dosage of fish food (0.075 g, 0.15 g; d<0.85 mm) into the culture medium, and the fish food was the source of nitrogen and phosphorus in the MII medium. The results showed that Microcystis aeruginosa growth -1 prometryn (R2=0.981~0.998). With the same concentration of prometryn, the maximum algae density (K) of Microcystis aeruginosa calculated by Logistic function increased with increasing dosage of fish food. And with the same dosage of fish food, K decreased with increasing concentration of prometryn. The derived formula for the specific growth rate, growth rate and inhibition rate using Logistic function agreed reasonably well with measured data. The combination of Logistic function and modified Monod function can describe the relat ionship between specific growth rates and nutrients concentrations better than the combination of original Monod function and Logistic function. In addition, equation for describing variations of nutrients concentrations (PO43 --P and NH4+-N) with time can be derived based on Modified Monod function and Logistic function, which agrees well with the measured data. In sum, the modified Monod function and its combination with Logistic function provides a promising method in studying algal growth in incubator experiment with fish food.
