Abstract: Miyanaka Intake dam, located midstream of the Shinano River, have a big fishway. However, fishway entrance faces to the Dam, then the flow direction of the fishway is opposite to the flow of the river, and it causes eddy around the fishway entrance. Therefore, fishes couldn’t reach around the fishway entrance. To improve this situation, we examined the optimal discharge pattern using numerical hydraulic analysis and field experiments, and verified the effects of improving by investigation of actual fish migration.
