Abstract: The purpose of this work is to establish a typology of macrohabitat fish guilds distribution in European rivers as a benchmark that will allow to measure the impact of dams on fish community. The developed algorithms should allow to predict expected fish community, at reference conditions, from macroscale river physical characteristics, and to create a predictive map of macrohabitat distribution across the entire Europe. The macroscale physiographic settings are described from the assemblage of physical attributes that a re insensitive to anthropogenic pressures (e. g. watershed area, gradient or elevation). Deviation of local community from such expected assemblage can be measured and related to human induced alterations.
