Abstract: This paper examined river temperature characteristics in the downstream part of an urban river by using an analytic model, and also analyzed relationship between river temperatures and the number of the upstream migration of sweetfish. The river studied in this paper was Tama River running through the metropolitan Tokyo, being strongly influenced by treated sewage water discharges from water treatment facilities along the river courses. It was shown from the analytic model results that river temperatures calculated by the model were able to represent their decline along the river course in winter season. The decline could be due to influence by a relatively high temperature input from water treatment facilities in winter. As for the relationship between river temperatures and the upstream migration of sweetfish, it was precisely indicated in data analysis that daily mean river temperatures tended to have higher values in mass migration years.
