Abstract: Satellite-airborne SAR/ASAR survey are used for ice cover monitor in the Gulf of Finland and surrounding polytypic lakes, artificial reservoirs situated in NW part of RF and neighboring countries. Lakes Ladoga, Chudskoye (Peipus), Teploye, Pskovskoye, Il’men’and others inland water bodies represent the zone responsibility of NW Territorial Administration on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Environment RF (SZ UGMS). All other such were investigated from freeze-up till ice melting and destruction. Winter seasons with different severity are selected. Investigations were aimed on revealing ecologically significant and hazardous phenomena, for supporting ice navigation and icy waters bio-monitor. Thematic interpretation of satellite SAR data is provided with using airborne and in situ ground trough inspection. Advancement activity supposes applying low-spectral polarimetric ALSAR that makes deeper sounding with increase number retrieval geophysical parameters. Analysis NERSC/NIERSC SAR achieves allows reveal the type FY ice and study modification ice conditions during two last decades. Examples of remote sensing deformed jammed zones with dividing level crystalline ice from rafted/ridged areas are presented. Diffused and compacted ice edge, ice belt, barrier of ice and other specific dangerous phenomena were investigated. SAR signatures of frazil and grease ice, rind ice, slush, shuga, dark and light nilas are classified. Comprehensive use SAR and IR survey allows detects location and spatial displacement of thermal bar (TB) in polytypic lakes: this application has fundamental meaning in limnology and marine mammology.
