Abstract: The design of conical structures subject to level ice actions has been the subject of significant research. Croasdale et al. (1994) proposed a model that was used to determine ice actions on the Confederation Bridge. Observations from the Confederation Bridge Monitoring Program as well as other full-scale structures have provided new insight into the failure mechanics of level ice with conical structures. Modifications to the Croasdale model are proposed based on physical observations and compared to measured loads.
