Abstract: A hydraulic jump was physically modelled downstream of a laboratory scale broad-crested weir and measurements of the free surface profile were compared with the predictions of CFD. The low Reynolds number version of the RNG k-ε turbulence model was used, in combination with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method for free surface modelling and the UMIST higher-order bounded interpolation scheme. Good agreement was obtained between the 2-dimensional CFD solution and the physical measurements, but the 3-dimensional solution was less satisfactory.
