Abstract: Several physical hydraulic model investigations were conducted to evaluate the performance of the stepped spillway, in which main parameters on this study are velocity coefficient ■, damping ratio k and resistance coefficient ■ of stepped spillway. The model spillway has the standard WES profile with continuous steps cut into the spillway face from just below the crest, to the toe. The experimental results indicate that the most important parameters governing ■, k and ■ are discharge per unit width ■, height of steps D and height of wire P. A dimensionless parameter, Drop Number ■, given out in this paper can be used to design the hydraulic jumping stilling basin at the toe of stepped spillway.
