Abstract: A new expression for calculating long-term suspended fine-sediment transport rate is developed based on theoretic analysis and experiments. The resulting equation is applied in simulation of fine sediment deposition near the reclaimed land, Hangzhou Bay, P. R. China. The hydrodynamics environment in this area is solved by using the long wave model, which gives the2D-velocity field and considers bathymetry changes due to fine sediment deposition. The expression was proved convenient to use in engineering practice, and predicted deposition rate favorably agree with the annual data available from field measurements from the first year to the third year after construction of the long groin used as reclaiming method.
