Abstract: There is a great number of formulae available on the stability of vari-ous protection systems against currents and waves. Most of them are developed for limited number of parameters involved and/or for specific applications only, and they look sometimes quite different from each other. This situation is very confusing for the potential users. The author is trying to transform some of these formulae to a comparable (unified) form. Moreover, a simplified “black box” approach is presented for a number of revet-ment systems for banks and shore protection. The design criteria, based on the physical similarity with rip-rap and block revetments, are defined for wave and current attack.
