Abstract: In this paper, a systematic analysis of theory and some experiments have been conducted. The linearized velocity potential theory has been applied to analyze the finitive-amptitude waves though fine porous materials of flexible in a semi-finitive open water body of constant depth with horizontal bottom, and relevant mathematic expressions have been obtained. According to them, the transmission coefficient CT, dimensionless porous-effect parameter G, wave profile of free-surface η are obtained and discussed. It is found that depend upon different values of CT, the structures of wave-reduction can be classified into four types: rigid impermeable breakwater, rigid impermeable breakwater, flexible impermeable breakwater, rigid permeable breakwater and flexible permeable breakwater. The material, structure type of breakwater can be chosen according to CT by the demand of projects. The experiments are conducted under different conditions such as depths, incident waves, structure and materials of the breakwater and the effect of wave –reduction.
