Abstract: The severe flood events of the last decade lead the European Commission to the establishment of the EC Directive on the assessment and management of flood risks. The implementation of the different aspects of the directive in transnational watersheds pose a great challenge. A series of transnational research projects have been established to function as showcase models. The latest project focus on the provision of information regarding all aspects of flooding and flood management, as well as the communication and the continuing education between the different stakeholders groups ranging from local authorities and emergency services, water management departments, civil engineering companies, universities and experts in the transnational Mosel-Saar watershed.
