Abstract: The authors want to demonstrate that one of the more discussed points of new exigencies for external accreditation for Engineering diploma, as the "supervised professional practice" have had an excellent implementation through the agreement between the National University of La Plata and the National Water Institute. The undergraduate students must fulfill 200 hours of practical work under the direction of an Institute research team leader and the supervision of a University professor. The present paper shows some examples of supervised professional practical works for the Hydraulic Engineering area developed in the Water National Institute. The quality of the final product and the achievement of the objective for the hydraulic student's formation is presented and discussed. In particular, the authors select the optimization of a stilling basin located downstream of a real high stepped spillway with rather large specific discharge, designed by a local consultant team and tested in the hydraulic laboratory.
