Abstract: The construction of a hydroelectric peak-load power station in the late sixties has modified the natural discharge regime of the river Ulla (Spain). In this paper the environmental situation of this river is evaluated using a self-developed twodimensional ecohydraulic model. The model comprises a hydraulic module based on the depth averaged turbulent shallow water equations, a fish habitat module, a water temperature module and a water quality module for the dissolved oxygen and the biological oxygen demand. In this way, the most important parameters which determine the ecological status of the river (velocity, water depth, dissolved oxygen and temperature) are evaluated for different scenarios of reservoir operation.
