Abstract: Tonle Sap Great Lake (TSGL) is located in Cambodia and forms part of the Mekong River Basin. This lake plays an important role for enriching the area with biological diversity and for providing fish resources as a source of protein for the Cambodian people. In this study, the authors intended to obtain the basic characteristics of factors representing hydrological and ecological conditions of TSGL by using satellite remote sensing and Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI). Especially, water surface change was treated as a hydrological condition, and the seasonal variation of vegetation density was examined as an ecological factor. As a result of this study, variations in the area of water surface over ten years were shown, and it was found that the NDVI in the TSGL had a unique variation throughout the year. This cyclic change occurs twice a year in the TSGL floodplain.
