Abstract: The Cheongmi Stream in Korea has a plan to restore the abandoned channel; therefore the estimation of channel-forming discharge is necessary for the design activity to determine the cross-section dimensions and planform geometries. Three representative methods of bankfull discharge, effective discharge, and a discharge of a specified recurrence interval were used to calculate the channel-forming discharge for the Cheongmi Stream in Korea. Also, determined channel-forming discharge of the Cheongmi Stream was applied as one of input parameters in the Stable channel Analytical Model (SAM) to calculate the stable width, depth, and slope for the abandoned channel restoration. According to the calculation results of the SAM program, the stable slope and width were smaller than the actual slope and width. Also, the stable depth was deeper than the actual depth. A narrower channel may have been more hydraulically efficient for Cheongmi Stream.
