Abstract: On a gravel terrace with high groundwater table near Budapest gravel dredging formed a series of lakes. Some of them are still operating while some are already abandoned. The evaporation of these lakes increases the water deficit of the region with lowering the groundwater levels. South to this area there is a national park with unique flora and fauna. The aim of the paper is to introduce and analyze some possible solutions to satisfy the contradictory requirements of gravel pits and national parks. For the analysis a groundwater flow model of the area is developed using the analytic element method.
