Abstract: Taihu Lake pollution and eutrophication problems have been paid high attention by Chinese government nowadays. To understand the fate of pollutant in the lake, the hydrodynamic flow and pollutant transport should be reproduced and forecast. The three-dimensional hydrodynamic and pollutant transport model for Taihu Lake is established in this paper. The basic three-dimensional equations in 3coordinate are used for fitting for free water surface and irregular bottom topography. These equations are discretised on Arakawa “C” grid with staggering the currents, pressure/elevation and scalar nodes. In this numerical process, the mode-splitting solution technique is applied. Based on the model, the flow circulation and concentration field of Taihu Lake at surface, middle and bottom layers are obtained. The study is the basis for obtaining total maximum daily load and controlling Taihu Lake pollution.
