Abstract: The paper presents CFD simulations of the flow through the axial flow hydraulic turbines runners designed and tested in the Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IFFM PAS). The objects of authors' interest are small hydraulic turbines, which are generally applied in micro-power plants. Computational results of analysis, conducted by first author's 3D Axflow code (vortex lattice technique VLM), are presented and compared with those following from laboratory and commercial solvers simulations. The paper contains the brief characteristic of the vortex lattice technique, vortex elements grid generator and selected calculations results. Additionally author focused on some essential flow phenomena in particular elements of axial flow runners, modelled by VLM method. As the conclusion some crucial remarks of CFD utilization for those types of hydraulic machines have been presented.
