Abstract: Analytical expressions are derived relating the probability distributions of flood peak to local rainfall statistics and drainage system parameters. These expressions may be used in watershed planning and stormwater management studies to analytically determine flood peaks of desired return periods at locations throughout the study area. Hence, they provide an alternative to conventional design storm modeling and continuous simulation approaches. A brief summary of this new approach is presented together with results from example applications.
