Abstract: In this paper, flow structure and form of sedimentation are investigated for three different discharge ratios (0.2, 0.4 and 0.6). Investigations are carried out for flow through rectangular open-channel diversion with changing of width ratios (the proportion of diversion channel width to main channel width). The tests are qualitatively performed. The flow structure at the water intake is very complicated. It has been found that for a constant width ratio, the dimensions of separation zone decrease by increasing discharge ratio and also for a constant discharge ratio, separation zone extends by increasing width ratio. Results of this study indicate that the behavior of the sediment transport depends on discharge ratio and Reynolds number and Froude number in main channel and diversion channel. The details of results for flow and sedimentation are explained and compared for different cases.
